It had been 9 years since I last attended this fund raiser and it was good to be back. Believe it or not that very first AVSC bonfire was my first time on crosscountry skis. What better of an intro then on a dark night with a little alcohol.
Its really a great event put on to sponsor the Aspen Valley Ski Club that helps the youth of the Roaring Fork Valley become monster skiers. It takes place at the Aspen Cross Country Center (the golf course covered in snow) and consists of skiing around the track to different bonfires.
Each bonfire is a step in the progressive dinner. First stop is hot chocolate, coffee, or hot spice wine. Supplied by local liquor stores such as Grape & Grain and the Grog Shop. The second bonfire was appetizers such as spring rolls for Asie and pizza from Tasters Aspen. At the third bonfire were the soups Tomato Basil, Truffle Potato, and others donated by Aspen Restaurants such as the Hickory House Ribs and the Butcher’s Block Deli. By the time we made it to the fourth bonfire we were pretty full and had connected with a few friends. Grabbed a hot chocolate and gave it a little rumbleminze and some great deserts for Gwyn’s High Alpine Restuarant and Pinon’s Restaurant.
Over all it is a great event and a good way to get together with friends and meet new ones all the while supporting a good cause for only $20 a ticket…
