SNOWMASS VILLAGE, CO – (April 10, 2012) A bit of international Gypsy punk music and New Orleans funk will descend upon Snowmass for the 9th Annual Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest June 8 & 9. GALACTIC will perform on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., and Gogol Bordello will perform Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
Known for its Gypsy punk/East-European style of music and substantial world-wide fan base, Gogol Bordello is truly an international band. The eight band members hale from around the world with front-man and lyricist Ukrainian Eugene Hutz; Russians Yury Lemeshev on accordion and Sergey Ryabtsev on violin; Spanish/Latvian Oren Kaplan from Israel on guitar; Chinese Elizabeth Chi-Wei Sun from Hong Kong on percussion; Ecuadorian Pedro Erazo on percussion; Ethiopian Tommy Gobena on bass; along with Oliver Francis Charles from Los Angeles on drums.
Gogol’s music has been described as successfully integrating booming bass and drums, with harmonious violin and accordion to create an eclectic bar band sound. The band’s energetic performances encourage their audiences to be a part of one unified jumping, sweating, smiling and dancing collective.
The band has toured throughout Europe and the Americas making appearances at numerous international festivals. Gogol toured with such diverse bands as Primus, Flogging Molly and Cake. Front man Eugene Hutz cites Jimi Hendrix and Parliament-Funkadelic as among the band’s main musical influences. Gogol performed seven shows with System of a Down and performed at the 10th Anniversary Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival 2011 and have appeared on the David Letterman Show.
GALACTIC, formed 18 years ago in New Orleans and has a unique funk sound combining hip hop, electronic, world music, rock, blues and jazz. The band’s sound is largely characterized by the increased use of electronic effects on guitar, bass, saxophone, and drums. GALACTIC is comprised of guitarist Jeff Raines, bassist Robert Mercurio, drummer Stanton Moore, Hammond organist Rich Vogel, Theryl DeClouet on vocals, and saxophonist Ben Ellman.
The band is also noted for inviting guest musicians from New Orleans to perform onstage with them including the Soul Rebels Brass Band, The Neville Brothers, Brian Seeger, Corey “Boe Money” Henry George Porter of The Meters, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Skerik. The band has shared the stage with acts including Live, Counting Crows, the Allman Brothers Band, The Roots, Fusebox Funk, Widespread Panic, Gift of Gab (of Blackalicious), and Jurassic 5.
GALACTIC’s main guest vocalist has been Corey Glover from the band Living Colour. GALACTIC toured North America in 2012 with Corey Glover and Soul Rebels Brass Band and recently appeared on the Conan O’Brien Show.

The 9th annual Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest kicks off the Snowmass and the Roaring Fork Valley’s summer festival season June 8 & 9 and draws 4,000 to 6,000 people to Snowmass devoting two days of chili cook offs and tastings, samplings from over 100 microbrews, 20 exotic beers and over 30 International Chili Society’s (ICS) and local cooks and various food vendors along with outdoor concerts. This exhilarating festival is set against a breathtaking mountain backdrop in Snowmass Village.
