The Progressive Bonfire Dinner takes place this Saturday, January, 8 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The event features an evening of cross-country skiing, eating, drinking, and socializing under the moon and stars at the Cross Country Center on the Aspen Golf Course.
The annual AVSC Nordic Bonfire Dinner, one of Aspen’s most unique winter outdoor fundraisers for the Aspen Valley Ski Club, helps the youth of the Roaring Fork Valley become monster skiers. It takes place at the Aspen Cross Country Center (the golf course covered in snow) and consists of skiing around the track to different bonfires. We highly recommend this as it is a great activity for locals and a true insight into Aspen for visitors.
Each bonfire is a step in the progressive dinner and really puts your night skiing skills to the test. First stop is hot chocolate, coffee, or hot spice wine. The second bonfire usually is appetizers such as spring rolls and pizza. At the third bonfire you’ll find the soups like Tomato Basil, Truffle Potato, and others donated by Aspen Restaurants. The fourth bonfire is the final stop and a good chance to overload on some great deserts & coffee.
Over all it is a great event and a good way to get together with friends and meet new ones all the while supporting a good cause for only $20 a ticket…
Our advice:
-Gather your cross country gear early, it may be rented at the Xcross country center at a reduced rate about an hour before the event.
-Bring a headlamp. Although, the path is marked by glow sticks & it’s fun to slide in the near darkness & flashlight will help you find your gear or your way in times of need.
-Bring a little something to sip on. 🙂
