Spring off season in Aspen is so close you can smell the ocean and feel the sand of that trip many locals will undoubtedly set out upon. Yes, there is always the desert getaways of Fruita, Moab and the rest of southern Utah but the beach is the true balance between the mountains. For those that choose to take a staycation there is no better time to eat in Aspen then the off season for a number of reasons. Sure, some restauranteurs close their doors so they and their staff can take that much needed break as well but the restaurants that remain open offer many benefits to the diner.
The first benefit to dining out in Aspen during the off season is that the mellowness returns to our little mountain town. Yes, with less visitors the energy brings it down a notch, which in turn translates often into much better service. The wait staff isn’t so harried with an over packed restaurant and are often quite happy to make sure you have a great experience. That drop in tourists to Aspen also means you can get a seat at any open restaurant quite easily at any time you want. Just not to late as many kitchens tend to close just a bit earlier. Seated anywhere before nine you should be fine. The best thing about dining out in Aspen during the off season however is the restaurant specials. Deals are anywhere from well crafted prix fixe menus to 50% off entrees and you really can’t beat that. So don’t be afraid to visit Aspen in the off season, sure it’s mellow but that’s great.
