“Now everyone’s a food critic!”
Truth be told, everyone has always been a food critic, they just didn’t have a large audience. With the emergence of social media, now your voice is heard. Pretty scary for some organizations, pretty important for consumers. We hear multiple views, some good and some bad, all of which paints a more real picture then would ever come out of traditional media.
Social media has been around longer than Facebook & Twitter, as it reaches back to website reviews. Amazon is a great example of allowing past customers to comment on the product they recently purchased. Now there are review sites for Hotels, Restaurants, etc. We’ve always seen this as a truly valuable aspect for the consumer and have always excepted restaurant reviews on eatAspen sites. Here the diner can relate their dinning experience for better or for worse. From these food reviews the restaurateur can gain valuable insight on how to improve certain aspects of their business and the diner can gain valuable insight on where to get their next meal.
While these review sites offer snippets of an experience, we can get even more from those that are writing in-depth pieces in blogs. There are a number of local Aspen blogs, two of which have been regularly writing pieces on the Aspen dining scene.
Life in Aspen has recently written about new Aspen restaurant BB’s Kitchen, “Bartender Dave suggested we start of with some monkey bread to share, so we did. It was ooey-gooey, sugary-sweet carbfully delightful.” as well as Aspen seafood restaurant Pacifica “has been a want-to-try Aspen restaurant that I haven’t had the chance to sample until I had friends come into town recently. We stopped by for their fantastic if short happy hour (it only runs 4-5:30p!)”
Aspen Real Life has recently written about dinner at Pinons “was better than ever. My favorites, the Freddy Salad and the Duck Quesadilla with Portobello mushrooms, still stood tall and my father-in-law said the Herb Roasted Rack of Colorado Lamb was possibly the best he had ever tasted.” as well as Gisella “My favorite dish was the Salumi e Formaggi with cured meats and cheeses. I slowed down, alternating between long sips of deliciously smooth Pinot Noir and small bites of Bresaola with chunks of fresh Parmesan and felt wings growing on my back.”
All this extra information only helps diners to better meals, so keep it coming!
