Reviews of il Mulino New York OVERALL RATINGS
Add Your Review June 10, 2010 Overall Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() If you're looking for il Mulino - look elsewhere. This "imitation" is terrible. The menu is absurd (too big) - why bother with so many specials if they can't get them right. 75$ entree I had to send back twice. Half the price at Ellina, L'Hostaria, or Campo and to be honest much better food. For 125$+/person - we were not happy.
May 9, 2010 Overall Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() We ate at this location for the second time in 3 months. It took forever to get our first cocktail, even longer to get the wine menu that we requested three times. We sat for 80 minutes before we received appetizers (supposedly the kitchen "lost" our ticket). The service is not worth the experience - it just ruins the whole stigma of Il Mulino. The food was very good, not superb. They did try to recover from these poor first impressions, but floundered then, too. I would definetly need to be craving a food item to return - which isn't likely. I have dined at the NYC, Dallas and Vegas locations. NC still blows them all away with their amazing service, food and ambiance.
February 25, 2010 Overall Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We finally got the chance to dine at the new Aspen restaurant Il Mulino. Il Mulino Aspen is the western outpost of the famous Italian restaurant il Mulino of New York City. Located at the base of Aspen mountain in a modern designed building that is part of the new Residences at the Little Nell. The stone patio is just steps from the gondola while the dining room features a high curved ceiling extending from a 30 foot glass wall at the front, with a more intimate setting at the rear of the restaurant. Once seated we were greeted with il Mulino's complimentary appetizers, cheese, selection of breads, fried Zucchini, mussels and Bruschetta, and Salami. We both thought this was a great way to begin the meal, with eating. For true appetizers we ordered the Rugola, baby arugula dressed with olive oil and fresh lemon topped with shaved aged Parmesan cheese and the Asparagus with a Dijon mustard sauce. Both were very good, although I did find that the arugula was over shadowed by the Parmesan. For pasta we had the Porcini-champagne-truffle ravioli and the Pesto gnoochi. The ravioli was great, with a nice smooth sauce. The pesto however just didn't have "it". We also ordered the fillet of Sole sauteed w/ lemon and thought is was excellent and melted in the mouth. Desert was the Torta di Cioccolata di Case, flourless chocolate cake that was very good and unbelievably rich and the Torta di Formaggio di Casa, Italian style cheesecake made with mascarpone cheese which was great. Both served with fresh berries, whipped cream, and an Italian whipped cream that was sooo good. Although probably unnecessary at this point, I just had to try the espresso and was very glad I did. The meal came to a close with il Mulino's complimentary plum flavored grappa. Over all we had great service, which was orchestrated by a team that never felt to imposing but smoothly helped us through our courses. The only slip in service was near the end of the meal the water glass stood empty in the crucial moments of navigating through the rich desserts but was refilled just in the nick of time. We were hosted by Il Mulino so we can't truly comment on the value but overall had a wonderful meal and would recommend this restaurant to others.
February 24, 2010 Overall Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() A very disappointing experience. Wine waiter brought wine from a different vintage but claimed it was the same wine. Many specials that were not on the menu were mentioned with no price indication. We choose the Mozaella a mediocry dish which turned out to be $ 26. Calamari fritto were baked in stale oil. The parmesan baked Veal chop was covered with a thick layer of cheese with a very thin piece of meat with no taste at all. We ended up paying $ 300 for a very poor diner. Our worst dining experience in Aspen!
February 12, 2010 Overall Rating: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lunch was so delicious. I went back twice & ordered the same item twice! It was the soup sample, three different soups, all wonderful. Prices are higher at dinner time, portions are generous, so share an entree, then its not as expensive. Wonderful views of the gondola and skiers at lunch.
