Chili & Brew Fest (2011)

chilli-sour-creamThe 8th annual Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest kicks off the Snowmass summer festival season June 3&4 and draws 8,000 people to Snowmass devoting two days chili cook offs and tastings, samplings from over 100 microbrews, 20 exotic beers and over 30 International Chili Society’s and local cooks and various food vendors along with outdoor concerts. This exhilarating festival is set against a breathtaking mountain backdrop in Snowmass Village.  The ICS holds its two regional championships, while an invitational microbrew competition lures brewers from all over the United States. Advanced ticket sales begin Friday, April 8 and continue through Thursday, June 2. SUSAN TEDESCHI AND DEREK TRUCKS WILL HEADLINE WITH THEIR NEW 11-PIECE ENSEMBLE—TEDESCHI TRUCKS BAND

SNOWMASS VILLAGE, CO – (April 5, 2011) Husband and wife Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi just added the Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest onto their 2011 World Tour performing in Snowmass at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, June 4.   Trucks and Tedeschi’s new band the “Tedeschi Trucks Band” will perform with 11 other talented musicians.

 

Trucks, a Grammy Award winning guitarist, songwriter and record producer, is also a member of The Allman Brothers Band and has been described by the Wall Street Journal as “the most awe-inspiring electric slide guitar player performing today”.  American blues and soul artist Tedeschi, has received multiple Grammy Award nominations and is well known for her singing voice (described as a cross between Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin) and high energy stage presence.  With the band name in place and an unparalleled lineup of musicians on-board, the Tedeschi Trucks Band will also debut their new album, “Relevator” in early June.

“The Tedeschi Trucks Band including the Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest on their world tour is huge,” said Josh Behrman, Event Manager.  “The fact that Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi just formed the Tedeschi Trucks Band plus the release of their debut album in June, makes them even more appealing to Chili Pepper music lovers.”

Front Range indie rock band, Carbon Choir will open for the Tedeschi Trucks Band on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.  The band members who have been writing music together since 2007,include Joel Van Horne on vocals and guitar, Chris Hatton, on piano/keyboards, Ryan Fechter, on bass, and Scott Weidner on drums.  Carbon Choir has shared the stage with many local, regional, and national acts including Carolina Liar, The Redwalls, Nico Vega, Wild Sweet Orange, The Young Republic, Flashbulb Fires, Hello Kavita, The Still City, Achille Lauro, The Rouge, Dan Craig, and Andrea Ball.

The Snowmass Chili Pepper & Brew Fest music will open on Friday at 6:30 p.m., with a performance by Boombox, consisting of a pair of dynamic artists DJ Russ Randolph and singer/songwriter/guitarist Zion Rock Godchaux. Considered an American rock band, Boombox was founded in 2004 with sequencers, groove boxes and turn-tables. Boombox has incorporated some of this rich history into their music, allowing for the grand entrance of a greater style and fusion of Rock and RollVintage Psychedelic and House. The band has played many notable concerts and venues, including appearances the Rothbury Music Festival.

Friday’s headliner, Grammy Award winning Jamaican reggae band Black Uhuru, formed back in 1972.  Considered the most successful of the second-generation reggae bands, Black Uhuru maintained their high quality despite numerous personnel changes in their 16-year history.  Black Uhuru, whose name comes from the Swahili word meaning “freedom,” was formed in the Waterhouse district of Kingston by Ervin “Don Carlos” Spencer, Rudolph “Garth” Dennis, and Derrick “Duckie” Simpson.  Simpson, who has been in every version of the band, is the current leader of the band and is the original singer.   Along with Simpson, other current band members include Andrew Bees and Queen Kay with a stellar authentic backing band.  Black Uhuru will perform at 8:30 p.m.
