Award-Winning Performance Series “THE SALON”

shapeimage_4On Sunday, April 6, renowned composer Andrea Clearfield and local choreographer Alya Howe will bring together another diverse group of great talents for an evening of artistic exploration at The Salon at Justice Snow’s.  Dr. Clearfield and Ms. Howe have co-curated a program of dynamic performances in the intimate and historic setting of Justice Snow’s Restaurant + Bar in downtown Aspen.

The Salon is an award-winning performance series
in Philadelphia. Founded by Andrea Clearfield in 1986 it is “one of the best-known music salons in the country” with a “deep bench of top-flight musicians”, “an underground sensation” (The Philadelphia Inquirer), and winner of the “Best of Philly Award 2008” (Philadelphia Magazine). The Salon features contemporary, classical, jazz, folk, world, spoken word, dance and art. Modeled after the 19th Century European salons, The Salon builds audiences and fosters new art forms in an intimate and supportive atmosphere. Michele Kiley and Andrea Clearfield started The Salon at Justice Snow’s in September 2012. Every event has been lauded by audiences and performers alike.

Michele Kiley, proprietress of Justice Snow’s, is excited to welcome The Salon to Aspen once again in 2014.  “The depth of artistic talent and the creative vision of Andrea Clearfield and Alya Howe make each Salon event a gem that Justice Snow’s is incredibly proud to host,” said Kiley.  “The Parlor is an ideal, close-knit setting for audiences to connect to these wonderful art forms.”

The program features:

• Honey Don’t (Bill Powers and Shelley Gray) performing old-time Americana bluegrass and folk
• Guitarist Julian Mock playing original, unconventional works for solo nylon stringed guitar
• Multimedia conceptual and sound artist Alyce Santoro performing “Sonic Fabric”, a textile woven from audiocassette tape recorded with intricate collages of found and collected sound samples
• Singer-songwriter Matt Haslett marrying music and poetry in performance of his original songs and stories
• Spoken word artist Wade Newsom performing his original works
• Planetary gong artist Heidi Svoboda shares healing sounds, vibrations and frequencies

The Salon at Justice Snow’s takes place Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 5:00-7:00pm.  Tickets are $25 and can be reserved online at aprilsalon.eventbrite.com or by calling (970) 429-8192.
